Rodac plates are very suitable for use in the industrial cleaning area. With the help of these plates you have a simple and quick method to check all kinds of surfaces for microbiological contamination.   work instruction RODAC

    Description

Rodac plates are made of 2 parts. The bottom part is a little bowl with growth medium for micro organisms. This bowl is covered with a lid which protects the growth medium against contamination from outside.

    Application area

Rodac plates can be used for microbiological examination/inspection of many kinds of surfaces. A few examples are textiles (inspection of the end product) or other end products and the inspection of folding tables, conveyer belts, containers, etc., etc.

Using the Rodac plates gives a good indication of the hygienic state of a surface. The choice of which type of Rodac to use, depends on what is required.

For the examination of textiles that are applied in hospitals or food industry, the types T, E and S are used in combination. Using type T is sufficient for examination of surfaces on a routine basis. If there are any deviations from the requirements, a more thorough investigation can be performed.

    Types

Rodac plates are available with a lot of different growth media. For application in the industrial cleaning area 3 standard types are used:

type T: for determining the total amount of micro-organisms (general hygienic state)
type E: for determining the amount of Enterobacteriaceae
type S: for determining the amount of Staphylococcus sp.

Other growth media can be delivered on special request. Please notice that this will lead to an increase in delivery time.

    Usage

With little instruction, almost everyone can use the Rodac plates. It is easy because the plates only have to be pressed on the surface. The method is suitable for in field-testing. After sampling the plates must be incubated. An instruction sheet for the working method is available. See here for a suitable incubator.

    Storage

The best way to store the plates is at a (cool) room temperature. When stored at a too low temperature, too much condensation will occur. The shelf life of the plates is limited. The expiration date is indicated on the package.
