Test materials   General information – test materials

We offer a broad area of dedicated testing materials. Most of them are especially developed for a specific application area or purpose. Feel free to ask for information if you are in need of something that is not listed on this website.

    The necessity of test materials

To the cleaning process nowadays much requirements is put with regard to process control, validation and guarantee. During formulating the objectives of the cleaning process is, depending on the type of process, e.g. require demands to:
  • stain removal
  • disinfection
  • tint / whiteness
  • loss of tensile strength
  • shrinkage

To be able to check these parameters both during the initial validation and at periodic validation, test materials are necessary. Beside the control with test materials, the (daily) control of company water, soak bath, main wash cycle, bleach wash cycle, press/centrifugal machine water, flows, temperatures, etc. remains necessary. Depending of the results of the test material can be stated that the process meets that the required limits or that the process must be adjusted to be able to meet the required limits.

Why does the control with test materials remain necessary? If the test materials always gives a good result people are inclined to stop with the control with test materials. Test materials remains however always necessary, parameters as soil level, water quality etc. could vary, because of this it is possible that the cleaning process is acting different. If this is not on time observed, it is possible you will get a higher percentage rewash.

The test materials can be used with the several checklists to show that the process is secured.

To secure the process well, we recommend you to use the different test materials with the next frequency:

  • stain removal monthly
  • disinfection test monthly
  • loss of tensile strength three monthly
  • shrinkage monthly

Cleaning Consultancy Delft has several test materials in the supply parcel which can be used at quality controls, validations e.g. beside loose sale it is possible to receive this test material in subscription form.

    Types of testing materials

The testing materials can roughly be divided in to the following areas:
  • primary washing effect (e.g. soil- and stain removal)
  • secondary washing effect (e.g. loss of tensile strength, dp-value)
  • lethality measurements
  • microbiological qualification of end products
  • hygiene testing
  • environmental measurements

    Primary washing performance

When laundry formulas are to be evaluated or when quick measuring of a changed formula is necessary. our testing materials for determining the primary washing effect can be applied. These methods are based on measuring the removal of standardised soil.

    Secondary washing performance

Long-term effects on textile are important to control. Possible side-effects caused by the washing process can be determined before it is detected on the laundry in practice. The laundry formula can be adapted to avoid further negative effects on the laundry or there is confirmation that the used formula is correct.

    Lethality measurements

In this area we have an interesting product in our range. With this product the lethality during the washing process can be determined. Not only the thermal lethality, but also the lethality by chemicals can be measured. Also applicable for washing processes at lower temperatures with only chemical lethality.

    Hygiene tests

To obtain an indication of the microbiological status of a product, the surface of the product can be checked using Rodac plates with a certain microbiological pollution. A reliable, economic and timesaving control of microbiological hygiene. This control can be carried out easily, especially trained staff is not necessary.

    Environmental measurements

To minimise the effect of dry cleaners on the environment there must be taken some precautions. To measure whether these precautions have achieved the wanted results some methods are applicable.
